Heigh-ho...
Crowley was driving about the city in the Bentley. Rather randomly, if truth be told. He didn't really have a destination in mind, he was just getting to know the place. Taking note of anything that looked interesting, or anything he might want to revisit. There was a restaurant, there was an electronics store, there was a...

There was a bookstore. A very strangely familiar-looking bookstore.

The Bentley screeched to a halt, Crowley unheeding of any commotion he might be causing. After a few moments, he pulled over and parked, sliding out of the Bentley slowly. He stood there for a minute before stepping up to the door. He glanced at the sign, the illegible listing of the store's hours, just like the one he'd seen a thousand times elsewhere.

"I'm going to bloody well regret this..."

He pushed the door open and stepped inside, letting it close behind him.

Crowley settled, taking another drink from his glass. Turn over a new leaf, indeed. He'd changed a bit, but certainly not enough to reform.

"I s'pose you've just been holed up in the shop since you got here, then? Trying to avoid selling books?"
bookish_angel on March 28th, 2006 04:00 am (UTC)
"Pretty much," Aziraphale replied cheerfully. "Harder to do here, too," he added solemnly.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on March 28th, 2006 06:50 am (UTC)
"Oh? More people actually interested in books around here?" Crowley asked idly, sipping his drink. Hm. It probably didn't help that the angel didn't have the porn shop next door here to draw the interest of passersby.
bookish_angel on March 29th, 2006 06:42 am (UTC)
"Mmm-hmm, they're... well, most of them know what I am," he said, peering into his empty glass. He really thought that it had been full a second ago.

It was hard to be terribly intimidating when a person knew that you were an angel. They knew that he couldn't do much more than glower at them, at the worst, aside from his various little tricks.

As for his erratic opening and closing times, people had a habit of showing up just as he was walking in, or whenever was a perfectly good time to wander in. It was positively uncanny.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on March 29th, 2006 09:28 am (UTC)
Crowley absently but carefully refilled Aziraphale's glass, scowling as the bottle emptied out. "Guess it's time for the gin... Anyway, this is just that sort of place, I guess. Not even any point pretending, because half the people 'round here can tell what's human and what isn't. Mostly because they aren't."
bookish_angel on March 30th, 2006 07:48 am (UTC)
"True... Really, your average human, average anything, just isn't likely to show up here," Aziraphale said, shaking his head.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 2nd, 2006 07:14 am (UTC)
"Guess not," Crowley agreed, emptying his glass. "Wonder what that makes us..."
bookish_angel on April 3rd, 2006 03:14 am (UTC)
"Weird," Aziraphale said solemnly.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 3rd, 2006 04:52 am (UTC)
Crowley paused, just looking at Aziraphale for a second. Then he dropped his head to rest on his forearm, which was laying on the table, and started snickering.

"I guess that sums it up...."
bookish_angel on April 5th, 2006 07:52 am (UTC)
Aziraphale stared at him, almost smiling, but looking a little confused, too.

"What's so funny 'bout it?"
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 7th, 2006 05:59 am (UTC)
"I dunno. Just is," Crowley replied, sitting back up and taking his sunglasses off, dropping them onto the table. "Always had a strange sense of humor, angel, you know that."
bookish_angel on April 9th, 2006 04:54 am (UTC)
"True, true."

Aziraphale took another drink, nearly emptying the glass. "Guess it is funny. Us, this, you know. Jus' when you think you've got things figured out... Out the window, all of it." He made a vague motion with his hands to emphasize.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 11th, 2006 04:40 am (UTC)
"Seems t'happen to us a lot. Life's goin' smooth, got a handle on it, then.. Bazamm!"

Crowley waved his glass for emphasis, ignoring the bit of alcohol that sloshed out. "Goes nuts. Abso-fuckin'-lutely crazy."
bookish_angel on April 13th, 2006 05:25 am (UTC)
"Maybe... Maybe we'll have a few centuries before it happens again," Aziraphale reached over for the wine bottle, only remembering that it was empty when he picked it up. "Nice break, y'know?" He set the empty bottle back down carefully.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 13th, 2006 07:05 am (UTC)
"Could use a break," Crowley replied, reaching over to open the gin bottle. "Time t'get settled in and comfortable at the new place. When I've got the new place."
bookish_angel on April 14th, 2006 04:58 am (UTC)
"Going to get another apartment?" Aziraphale asked as he slid his glass a little closer to Crowley.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 14th, 2006 06:43 am (UTC)
"S'what I'm planning on," he replied, carefully filling Aziraphale's glass. He spilled a bit, but what did that matter? He went ahead and poured some gin into his own glass and put the bottle down.
bookish_angel on April 15th, 2006 04:57 am (UTC)
"Mm, thanks."

He took a couple of sips of the gin. "Seen the park yet? There's even ducks... Lot like the ones back home."
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 15th, 2006 07:06 am (UTC)
"Drove by. Not actually gone in and had a look yet," he replied, drinking his own gin.
bookish_angel on April 16th, 2006 03:38 am (UTC)
"Been to feed them a couple times. They kept giving me looks... like they were waiting, er... expectant, yes, that's it." Aziraphale smiled. "Went and changed up the routine on them, I guess."
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 16th, 2006 05:10 am (UTC)
"Odd birds, ducks. Guess it's not a bad way to live, though. Float around, quack at people, get fed... Good life for the lazy," Crowley mused absently.
bookish_angel on April 17th, 2006 06:49 am (UTC)
"Must get dull after a while, though," Aziraphale said thoughtfully, reaching for his glass. He got it on the second try and took a sip from it.
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 18th, 2006 03:38 am (UTC)
"...Maybe that's why ducks fly south in the winter?" Crowley put forth after a drawn-out moment of thought.
bookish_angel on April 21st, 2006 07:22 am (UTC)
"Wha's the word? Er... M-something. Anyways, do y'think they fly anywhere here? I don't think there is a south."
Anthony J. Crowleyh8_ineffability on April 22nd, 2006 01:43 am (UTC)
"Maybe for them, there IS one. Weirder things could happen, righ'?"
